It is supposed to watch for a password protected Zip or Jaz disk and prompt you for the password rather than your getting an error message when you try to access the driver. Under Linux, Zip, Jaz, Syquest, and ANY other 'disks' (removable or not) are just disks and use the high-level sd driver over the driver for the interface board.
